Part 11 by A

Nikita proceded to tell Michael the grim details of the mission profile Walter had showed her. Michaels face became paler and more disgusted with each word that sounded from Nikita's pouting lips. Michael unable to hear anymore stood and quickly walked to the door. Nikita stopped him in front of the window, embracing him, and trying to comfort him. Also unknowingly being watched.

Walter looked angrily at Madeline and George and asked to be alone with Janet. After Madeline and George looked at each other, Madeline turned to Walter and nodded. George extended his arm and Madeline slipped hers into his locking their arms at the elbows as George escorted her out.

Walter looked longingly at Janet. It had been so long scince he had seen her. Each night he would think of her to calm himself into a peaceful sleep, which was the only way he would get any. She appeared even more beautiful now than he had ever dreamt while he was away. She excused herself a moment and came back to find him sitting uneasily on the couch. Janet walked calmly over to him and watched as he rised to talk to her. He gazed into her eyes for a long moment taking in the breathless beauty of the silkyest grey eyes he had ever seen. He closed his eyes feeling the water rise as she lifted a hand to touch his face. Walter remained in that state, eyes closed yet tears still streamed down his face as Janet explored his face lovingly with her hands. It had been so long Walter had almost forgotten how Janet made him feel.

Janet had also forgotten. She could not think of all the thing that had happened between them, not now. Now she was too preocupied with the hapy fluttery feeling that was arizing slowly in the deepest parts of her soul. She also closed her eyes as the two stoodembracing, and crying.

The door to the quiet room opened and a man and woman entered.

"Daddy?" a trembling voice stated. Every syllable echoing through Walter's pounding head.

Wallter turned around when he hard the familiar voice call "Daddy". He knew that voice anywhere. Janet looked at Walter and hurtfully asked, "Who do we have here?"

Before Walter could speak, Nikita quickly answered, "I am Nikita, Walter's daughter and this is my brother, Michael."

Walter rolled his eyes and quickly shot Nikita an evil stare. He could tell Janet was crushed. Janet tearfully looked at Walter and said, "I never knew you loved anyone but me."

Walter took her arm and said, "it was a long time ago. Their mother took them from me when they were little and I have just know found them again after all these years."

Janet seemed so desolate to think that Walter could have loved anyone but her, she tried so hard to surpress the need to hurt him back.

Meanwhile, back at Com....

Birkoff couldn't believe what Michaeland Nikita had done. They had broken mission protocol and gone against the mission profile. This surely would get them both canceled. Birkoff heard Operations screaming in his ear - "Birkoff, how is the Clarkson mission coming along? When will Michael first meet Jennifer?" Birkhoff didn't know how to answer Operations, he didn't feel like being the bearer of bad news.

Nikita smiled to herself in gleeful joy. If Operations only knew what kind of a spiteful bitch she could be. Oh well his loss was her gain. what kind of girl would sleep with her own half brother.

Janet looked from Walter to Michael and Nikita. "They don't look very much like you. They are not really yours are they Walter." Janet told him with hurt in her voice.

"Nikita's adopted, my mother was french." Michael put in quickly.

Janet's eyes looked over him quickly and then flew back to Walter. "They're not your children Walter. She could be, but he's to old." Janet said looking over Nikita and Michael again.

"Of course they are my children Janet, love." Walter soothed as he watched Nikita move smoothly to the side. He knew something was going on, but what he didn't know yet. Why had Madeline and George brought him back after all this time.

Madeline watched secretly unknown from Operations and Birkoff with George beside her. "Nikita has a bit of a streak doesn't she." George commented with a brilliant twinkle in his pale blue eyes.

"I suppose she does." Madeline said. "The question is what are we going to do with this mess."Madeline said meeting his gaze.

"What ever are you talking about?" George asked his laugh was silent but Madeline knew he could detect it was there.

"Well let's see. Nikita and Michael have gone agaisnt mission profile, Janet knows about the agency, but Operations and Walter both don't know she knows. And she doesn't believe that Nikita and Michael are Walter's children adopted or not. And there is still that marriage of poor Jenny to the bastard son of Vincent Sandstorm." Madeline told him annoyed.

"There is something you left out Madeline my dear." George said and smiled happily with the secret that Madeline did not know.

"And what is that?" Madeline sighed in question. George liked to play games, but today it was getting on her nerves.

"That Vincent and Jonathan Sandstorm work for me." George said and smiled like the Chesire Cat.

"WHAT!!!!" Madeline exclaimed.

"It's a long story." George told her trying to disguise his gloating.

"Well start talking!" Madeline demanded.

Birkoff gulped. "Fine sir." He lied trying to hide the fear in his voice. Where was his mother when he needed her. Well of course Madeline didn't know that he knew and Operations sure didn't know that he knew as well. He had never been sure who his father was, but he had always had his suspicions. Birkoff had spent must of his young life hacking into files that were buried so deep in the Section that Operations didn't even know that some of them existed.

Swallowing his fear again his mind drifted to all the secrets he knew. Secrets that would have him killed if he ever uttered a word of them to anyone. Secrets that could destroy Operations and put a more deserving power into Section. It wasn't himself that Birkoff had always envisioned as leader, oh no he much preferred his computers to the stress of commander of Section one. Hell he had seen what it had done to Madeline as only second in command. Only in a short time would the rightful command would take it's position. He was tired of Operations' tyranny and it only took a few words to the right people. He had lived his whole life without the comfort of his mother, that he could leave with. But thanks to the older man's fear of others taking his position as he had done to Aunt Adrian, Birkoff had watched Operations destroy countless lives, including those of the top operatives who had been the only family in his young life and unfortunatley loyal to Adrian.

Faking a yawn he told the other intel operatives that he would continue survelliance in his quarters and that no one else was to bother with it. As he walked down the halls to his quarters silently he smiled to himself. Life was divine and sense Operations like destroying it so much maybe he would like a taste of his own medicine. Maybe he didn't like being the bearer of bad news but Operations demise wasn't so much bad news and diving venage after all the man had killed his family and kept his heritage as well as others away from him. Unknown to Operations family was what came first to the Agency and Operations would learn. After all he knew a secret that no one else knew. After all he had all the Family Connections, but he wasn't the only one. Nikita's father was none other than .....

George.

George looked over to where Madeline was pacing and trying to figure out his references to having the targets on his payroll.

How could he do that? Wasn't that a conflict of interests? She looked at him and could see that he was a million miles away. What was he thinking about?

She moved within his line of vision and he still didn't notice her.

George had his plan in action and he couldn't have been happier. Once Nikita enetered Section he knew she would gain the proper training to take over for him with his new ... venture. Having the others on his side, Vincent and Jonathon Sandstrom, was just the beginning. Snapping himself out of his recollection, he noticed Madeline eyeing him with even more suspicion.

"George, just what IS it that you are up to?" She waited with bated breath.

Operations was pacing back and forth in the observation deck. Where was everyone? Why wasn't he being informed of the progress of the mission? He stormed out of his office and headed for Comm.

"Birkoff, what is our status?"

Birkoff, trying to shake off the nervous anxiety he was feeling, answered, "I'm not sure, sir. I haven't heard from anyone."

Operations was ready to blow his top. "What do you mean you haven't heard from anyone? Aren't you monitoring? Shouldn't you be sequencing? What is going on? I want an update and I want it in 15 minutes! And send Madeline to my office immediately."

"Yes sir." Birkoff let out the breath he hadn't realized he had been holding when Operations left. He knew he had to contact Michael and Nikita and find out what was up. And he didn't have much time to do it. 15 minutes? How does he expect me to get a report to him in 15 minutes?

Birkoff hit the intercom to Madeline's office. "Yes, Birkoff?" Madeline answered.

"Operations wants to see you in his office right now. And he's not in a very good mood." Madeline looked at George and then replied. "Fine. I'll be right there."

Just then Operations called to Birkoff again. "Birkoff, where's Walter?"

Oh man, Birkhoff thought to himself. Why can't somebody else have this job? "Sir, I'm not sure. He left a few hours ago. I haven't seen him since."

Operations was getting more furious as time passed. "What is going on Birkoff? If I find out you are holding out on me, you will be cancelled."

Birkoff shivered at those words. They weren't spoken to him very often, not as often as Nikita heard them, so they still made an impact. "I'm sorry, sir. I'll try and find out."

"See that you do. And you're wasting what little time you have left to get me that report." Birkoff sighed and tried to contact Michael.

Madeline entered Operations' office in time to hear the end of his outburst to Birkoff.

"Is there a problem?" she sweetly inquired.

Operations looked at her like she should know better. "Do you have any idea what is going on, Madeline? And if so, why wasn't I informed?"

Madeline walked closer to him and watched out the window as Birkoff frantically tried to get a report for Operations. Then she turned to him. "Do I have any idea about what?"

"Don't play games with me Madeline! What is going on with the Clarkson mission? Why haven't we heard anything? Where are Michael and Nikita? Where is Walter? You had better tell me now, Madeline. And you better not cross me."

"Michael, come in. Nikita, come in. Somebody come in!" Birkoff was frantically trying to reach somebody on Michael's team."

"Birkoff, what is it?" Michael answered. Birkoff sighed. Finally.

"Michael, Operations wants a report and I have five minutes to get it to him. He wants to know what is going on and why he is being kept in the dark. You've broken mission profile and he doesn't know it yet. He doesn't have a clue where Walter is. What am I supposed to tell him?"

Madeline studied Operations' face for a few minutes, trying to decide what to tell him and what to leave out. Just as she was about to answer him, George walked in.

"Hello Operations. I understand you are having a bit of a problem with the current mission. Perhaps I can be of assistance."
