What A Way to Start the Day!
By Sherry
Sherry was in her office reviewing mission schedules. There was a knock on the door and
NORTHSTAR entered with an armload of files. "It’s time for the quarterly personnel REVIEW. Here’s your stack."Sherry groaned. The number of files North gave her would take forever to get through. "Uh, North, aren’t there three of us again? Shouldn’t we give some to Rita?"
North laughed. "I want to break her in slowly. I have a few set aside for her, but the bulk of them will be done by you and me. Remember, it took you a while to get your feet wet."
Sherry nodded. "I remember. I was just checking that Rita wasn’t slipping you bribes to keep me locked in my office so she could spend more time with you know who."
North smiled. "
TRUST me. I wouldn’t let her. However, since your dinner with David, I may rethink that!""Don’t even consider it woman, or I may start another war!" They were both laughing as Rita stopped in. "So guys, what’s on the agenda for today?"
"Don’t ask," Sherry advised.
North chuckled. "Today you get your first real taste of ‘momdom.’ It’s quarterly personnel review time. We’ll take it easy on you this time, only give you a few to review. But while we’re going through the rest, you’ll have to take care of the day-to-day stuff."
Rita laughed. "Cool. I’m in charge!"
"Uh, North, you may want to rethink that strategy," Sherry laughed. Just then her cellphone rang. She listened and then jumped up. "Stay where you are but keep an eye on him. And whatever you do, don’t shoot him. I’m on my way."
North and Rita looked at her questioningly as she headed out the door. "That was Joann. She said there’s a
WOLF near the gazebo. I’m going to check it out.""A wolf?" North exclaimed. "What? We can’t have wolves roaming around." Sherry hurried down the hall with North and Rita on her heels. "I’ll take care of it," she called over her shoulder. Stopping by the arsenal, she grabbed a tranq gun.
Outside, Sherry spotted Joann near the door with a look of
SHEER terror on her face. "Okay, Joann. Where?" Joann pointed towards the woods. She grew more terrified when she spotted the animal running toward them.Sherry glanced in the direction Joann pointed and started laughing. Behind her, North and Rita began laughing as well.
"What’s so funny?" Joann demanded.
"I’m sorry," Sherry replied. "You’re new, so you wouldn’t know. That’s not a wolf, it’s my dog, Lakota. He just looks like a wolf."
"Your dog?" Joann asked. The animal loped up to Sherry, tail wagging. She knelt down and hugged him. "Yep, my dog. He was a gift from Michael. Sorry he scared you. I left him out to run and lost track of time while I was working."
"Oh," Joann nodded. "He’s beautiful."
"Thanks. Now, Lakota, come on inside before we scare anybody else."
